1. Watch humpback whales
During the season, humpback whale watching is one of the region’s main attractions. The Abrolhos Bank concentrates whales during the breeding season and may offer encounters with traveling whales, mothers with calves and surface behaviors.
2. Go snorkeling
Snorkeling can reveal reefs, fish and sea turtles at suitable and authorized sites. ICMBio includes free diving and snorkeling among visitor activities in the park, always subject to sea conditions.
3. Walk guided island trails
Siriba Island offers a guided trail and seabird watching. Other landings depend on current park rules, authorization and environmental conditions.
4. See Santa Bárbara and Abrolhos Lighthouse
The lighthouse is one of Abrolhos’ most recognizable landmarks and stands on Santa Bárbara Island, under Brazilian Navy jurisdiction. Access depends on the rules in effect.
5. Learn about whales and conservation in Caravelas
Caravelas has ICMBio’s visitor center and the Espaço Baleia Jubarte, with educational material about research, conservation and humpback whale biology.
6. Explore Parcel das Paredes
Parcel das Paredes adds a day of shallow reefs, coral banks and snorkeling, always coordinated with tide and sea conditions.
This guide combines Scalea’s own photographs and field records with public information from institutions directly involved in Abrolhos. Rules, fees, schedules and visitor conditions may change; confirm operational information before traveling.
