What is Parcel das Paredes?
Parcel das Paredes is an extensive reef complex on the Abrolhos Bank near the coast of Caravelas. At low tide, very shallow sectors become more evident, creating a landscape of coral banks, channels and natural pools. It is geographically different from Parcel dos Abrolhos around the archipelago.
Why the tide matters
The experience changes substantially with the tide. Under suitable conditions, shallow formations and protected areas become more visible and can allow careful navigation among the reefs. Local operators adjust timing and routes according to tide tables and sea conditions.
Snorkeling and marine life
When the sea allows, snorkeling provides a close look at reefs, fish and other marine organisms. The Abrolhos region has Brazil’s greatest coral diversity and reef formations of major ecological importance.
Parcel das Paredes during whale season
During the months when humpbacks are present on the Abrolhos Bank, travel through the region may also offer whale encounters. Sightings depend entirely on the natural distribution of the animals.
This guide combines Scalea’s own photographs and field records with public information from institutions directly involved in Abrolhos. Rules, fees, schedules and visitor conditions may change; confirm operational information before traveling.
