Caravelas is the main gateway

ICMBio identifies Caravelas, in southern Bahia, as the closest city to Abrolhos Marine National Park. The park headquarters, visitor center and several authorized operations are based there. The archipelago is around 70 km from Caravelas.

Which airport should you use?

According to ICMBio, Porto Seguro is about 261 km from Caravelas and Vitória, Espírito Santo, around 400 km away. For many travelers, Porto Seguro is the most practical air gateway because of flight availability and road access.

Getting there by road

Travelers from southern, southeastern and central-western Brazil generally use BR-101 and regional connections toward Caravelas. Road conditions can change, so confirm your route shortly before traveling.

From the mainland to the archipelago

The final leg is by sea and visits to the national park should use an authorized operation. Crossing time depends on the vessel and sea state, generally around 2.5 to 5 hours.
