The five islands
The Abrolhos Archipelago is formed by five volcanic islands: Redonda, Siriba, Sueste, Guarita and Santa Bárbara. ICMBio notes that Santa Bárbara is outside the national park boundaries and under Brazilian Navy jurisdiction.
Siriba Island and seabirds
Siriba’s guided trail is one of the archipelago’s best-known visitor activities. ICMBio highlights nesting seabirds including boobies and red-billed tropicbirds. Visits are accompanied by authorized staff or guides.
Santa Bárbara and Abrolhos Lighthouse
Santa Bárbara is the archipelago’s largest visual landmark. ICMBio notes that the Abrolhos Lighthouse has operated there since 1861. Access to the island and structures depends on current rules and authorizations.
Responsible visitation
Trails, diving and navigation follow low-impact visitor rules. Visitors should respect restricted areas, never remove natural materials, leave no waste and follow authorized guides.
This guide combines Scalea’s own photographs and field records with public information from institutions directly involved in Abrolhos. Rules, fees, schedules and visitor conditions may change; confirm operational information before traveling.
